Outline of Mie Prefecture |
|
Mie Prefecture is located in central Japan facing the Pacific. It lies between the cities of Nagoya, Osaka and Kyoto, which are all conveniently accessible from Mie. The prefecture can be reached by high speed boats in approximately 40 minutes from Chubu International Airport, which was opened in 2005. Facing the Pacific, the Mie coastline reaches over 1000 kilometers and contains beautiful rugged coasts and enjoyable scenery. Mie is rich in nature, and as such over one third of its area is designated as nature reserves and parks. The climate is warm with an average annual temperature of 14 to 15 °C. Mie Prefecture stretches from north to south, and the climate differs by region. For example, the north features snow falls, and one can see the frost covered nature of the alpine area, while it is possible to pick oranges all year round in the south, which is known as one of the rainiest areas in Japan. |
