Boarding the bus

  1. Most of the route buses in Mie Prefecture have two doors—one at the front and one in the middle. Board the bus from the door in the middle.
  2. When you board the bus, take a ticket from the ticket machine next to the door. If there are no tickets, proceed to a seat.
  3. There will be announcements in the bus about the bus stops. When an announcement is made about the stop where you want to get off, press the buzzer next to your seat to inform the driver.
  4. Wait until the bus has stopped before getting off. Use the front door to get off the bus. Put the bus ticket and the exact fare into the fare box next to the driver’s seat. Determine the fare by matching your ticket number with the number on the fare screen shown at the front of the bus.
  5. Change on the bus can be given only for coins or for thousand yen bills. Change cannot be given for two thousand yen bills or bills of a higher denomination. Please have coins or thousand yen bills ready before boarding the bus.
  6. The bus drivers speak Japanese only.

1.Buying a ticket

There are ticket sales areas at the bus terminals in major train stations. There are maps of the bus routes shown on the upper part of the wall. There are numbers for each station on the map, such as 200 or 360. Those numbers are the fares required from the bus station where you are located to the bus station shown on the map. Buy a ticket from a clerk at the counter or from a ticket machine. For those bus stations without a ticket sales area, board the bus and pay the fare when you get off.
